Yanni's Bar & Grill

Where Every Gathering Becomes a Celebration

The Beginning

We met in the most unlikely of classrooms: the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. Yanni had grown up in a Greek household where hospitality was the way of life. Every gathering centered around food, wine, and the unspoken rule that no one leaves hungry. Denise with her Italian heritage brought her own passion for service, refined through years of Ritz-Carlton training at properties across the country. Together, we learned what it means to anticipate a guest's needs before they voice them, to obsess over details others overlook, and to treat every interaction as an opportunity to make someone's day better. Those lessons stayed with us long after we left the hotel world behind.

Opening Yanni's

By the time we opened Yanni's Bar and Grill in 2002, we'd already run a very successful restaurant in Sherman Oaks. But Scripps Ranch felt different—like a community waiting for a gathering place. We saw families celebrating milestones with nowhere to go. We saw business colleagues grabbing lunch at chains when they deserved better. We saw in San Diego an opportunity to bring something new to the city and the neighborhood: Mediterranean cuisine rooted in Yanni's Greek and Denise’s Italian heritage, served with the kind of attention to detail our guests deserve in an atmosphere that felt elegant, and welcoming. From day one, our goal was simple—be the best restaurant in the neighborhood where our guests come to celebrate a special occasion or enjoy a family meal.

The Philosophy

People sometimes ask what makes Yanni's different from other restaurants. The honest answer? It's not one thing—it's everything. It's the decision to use the best quality and freshest ingredients. It’s the passion and care your meals are being prepared. It's the server who remembers your name and your usual order. It's Yanni and Denise walking the dining room, greeting regulars and welcoming first-timers with the same warmth. We brought our lifelong hospitality experience to a neighborhood bistro because we believe everyone deserves that level of care.

Growth and Community

Twenty-four years is a long time in the restaurant business. We are grateful to our community and all our guests that have helped us weather fires, recessions, pandemics and parking challenges. We are committed to our neighborhood and city and have invested in expanding our patios, to make our restaurant the best it can be. We are honored that our guests consider us their friends and some have been coming since we opened—they've celebrated engagements, anniversaries, graduations, and retirements at our tables. Their children have grown up eating here. Now their grandchildren are learning to love arrancini and chocolate budino.

When we look around the dining room on a busy Saturday night and see three generations of the same family sharing a meal, we know we've built something that matters. That's not a customer base—that's a community.

Today

Today, Yanni's has grown into everything we dreamed it could be. Three beautiful patios—covered, heated, and strung with lights—offer space for intimate dinners and celebrations up to 200 guests. Our wine list includes rare vintages from Yanni's private cellar, along with his own label: YB&G from Fallbrook Winery. We believe that the best meals are the ones shared with people you love.

Invitation

If you've never visited Yanni's, we hope you'll give us a chance to welcome you. If you're one of our regulars, thank you—sincerely—for 24 years of trust. Either way, there's a table waiting for you. Come for the Mediterranean flavors, stay for the atmosphere, and leave as part of our story. We can't wait to meet you.
